out of print

I was at this little record store today and found an LP I have been trying to find for several years - Robben Ford's "The Inside Story." Robben has been one of my favorite guitarists for at least the last 15 years; this was his first solo album, from 1977-78 era. This record was the initial formation of what became a few years later the Yellowjackets - my favorite band. This record is amazing, and it sucks that it is so hard to find because it really is one of the best albums I have heard. Props to the local record shops for allowing us younger cats to hear these wonderful out of print records and learn from them.

new band

I joined a second band this week. The first band is a three-piece (guitar+bass (me)+drums) and it is a rock jam-style band (we never play the same song the same way twice and frequently we make up songs on the spot)....all originals. The second one is a five-piece (guitar+keys+bass+drums+vocalist) and is a blues/rock/alternative format. We are doing about 80% covers for now, but the originals are very promising. The vocalist has a great voice, very bluesy alto with years of smoking under her belt for that added texture required for blues. She sounds kind of like a cross between Tina Turner and whatever the lead singer for 4 Non Blondes (remember...."and I said hey hey hey hey...hey hey hey what's goin' on"). We're hoping to start booking places SOON and if it works out do a recording project later in the year. I'm just happy to be playing the majority of the nights of the week. =)
